Operation Encompass
Our school participates in Operation Encompass, a partnership between the police, schools and other agencies. Its purpose is to ensure that children and young people who may be at risk of harm receive timely and appropriate support.

Through Operation Encompass:
We have developed our own safety curriculum that is delivered across the year. The areas covered are water safety, fire safety, safety online and road safety. Through this curriculum and other opportunities, we help children learn how to stay safe, develop confidence and make positive choices. We support them in building healthy relationships, understanding their feelings and becoming increasingly independent.
Staff model and encourage positive behaviour, helping children learn to be kind, take turns and resolve problems calmly. We also help children develop resilience so that they feel able to keep trying when something is difficult.
Stories, songs, games, visits and visitors help us bring these important lessons to life in engaging and age-appropriate ways. Every day provides opportunities for children to try new things and learn how to look after themselves and one another.
We follow robust safer-recruitment procedures when appointing staff and accepting volunteers. All adults undergo the appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, together with the other checks required by the latest statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Many members of staff are trained in paediatric first aid and remaining staff are trained in first aid. All staff receive regular refresher training. First-aid kits are located at appropriate points throughout the school and are checked and restocked regularly.
Accidents or incidents that result in a visible mark or require first aid are recorded in our first aid books. Parents / carers will be given a duplicate slip and a slip will be kept by the school. Parents and carers will be informed at collection time or sooner if their child is assessed as requiring professional medical attention.
Serious incidents are recorded using the appropriate County Council accident-reporting procedures, and parents or carers are informed. Minor incidents that do not require first aid are managed by staff and may not require parental notification.
We have strict procedures to ensure that every child leaves the school safely.
Adults who regularly collect a child must be named on the child’s personal record. A collection password will also be agreed and recorded. We will not release a child to an adult who is not authorised or expected to collect them.
Any change to the usual collection arrangements must be provided to the school office in writing. The collecting adult must know the agreed password. Young people under the age of 16 are not permitted to collect a child.
We highly value strong attendance and punctuality. This contributes to strong educational outcomes and supports in keeping children safe. Parents and carers must inform us whenever their child will be absent.
As a school we monitor attendance and punctuality. Where there is persistent absence or lateness, we will speak with parents and carers to understand any challenges, offer appropriate support and agree strategies to improve attendance.
We have an Online Safety Policy and teach children how to use technology safely and appropriately. Children access the internet only with adult supervision and support. All staff receive annual training on keeping children and themselves safe online. To protect children’s privacy, support safeguarding and encourage positive engagement at arrival and collection times, parents and carers must not use mobile phones while on the school site. We ask everyone to put phones away and greet children with a smile.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads have lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection, including online safety. They ensure that our Child Protection Policy is implemented and that all staff understand their responsibility to keep children safe. All staff and governors receive appropriate child-protection and safeguarding training. This training is updated regularly and in accordance with statutory requirements.
